    The Friction<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Hunts Point does not have a consistent, hyper-local pipeline to high-quality dance training. Young people with potential must travel outside their community to access it, creating a barrier that limits who can participate and who continues.
    Local recreational dance programs serve the community but are often stretched beyond their capacity to offer advanced training. At the same time, a newly built arts center has space designed for dance that remains underused due to a lack of programming and expertise.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    The Method<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Technique to Creation<\/em> is a summer dance program for children ages 8\u201312, offered free to families in Hunts Point. Students train in classical ballet while developing their own choreography. Classes combine technical instruction with structured choreographic practice, allowing students to generate movement based on their ideas and experiences.

    The program is built in partnership with local recreational dance programs, leveraging their existing work in the community to create a first step in a broader training pipeline. Professionals from across the dance field engage with the program, exposing students to professional pathways.

    In parallel, a curriculum is developed through the teaching process, capturing the structure, exercises, and creative frameworks used in the program. This allows the model to be iterated, adapted, and implemented in other sites.
    The program culminates in a public presentation of student-created work.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
